I REMEMBER THE SQUIRREL
I remember the squirrel
inviting me
into his house
that goes deep underground
as I guessed it would.
I remember
how he showed
me the ocean
beyond the horizon.
We went swimming
to help a lion-fish
escape from a fishing boat.
We went diving
too, with a shark
who told us
we will be able
to breathe.
I remember the squirrel
waving as I walked home.

Why do you like to write poetry?
Oscar Brady: “I like to write poetry because it keeps my brain busy and lets me think. I like poetry because it makes words sound just right. When I write a poem the sound of the words can put more interest into a short space and it can be read in a certain and very particular way … just the way I want it to sound.”
